The Magic of the Arctic World
The Arctic is Norbert Rosing.s passion. During the past
two decades, he.s traveled there more than 50 times
to photograph the wildlife and its habitat; in this
presentation he will show you a year in the Arctic. Every
March for 15 years, Norbert photographed the emergence
of polar bear families from their dens, along with musk oxen and harp seals
giving birth to their young. Spring brings migrating birds, while beluga whales
congregate to mate and give birth. One summer he followed walruses in
Hudson Bay and documented polar bears feeding on seals in Spitsbergen. In
fall, Arctic hares undergo a color change, and musk oxen search for shelter
from the blizzards to come.

Huge, powerful and fearless is Nanook, the polar bear. Standing 10 feet tall on its hind legs and weighing more than 1,600 pounds, the polar bear is renowned for its singular ferociousness. It survives on the starkly beautiful and unforgiving arctic tundra, moving with the floating ice to raise its young and hunt for seals. With its tufted ears, snowy white coat and coal-black eyes and nose, the polar bear is arrestingly photogenic. In this collection of remarkable photographs we discover the polar bear as not only a formidable predator but also a loving parent and natural jester. World-renowned photographer Norbert Rosing has been a leader in raising awareness of this majestic creature and the increasing threats to its survival. In Polar Bears 2010, his engaging photographs and informative captions invite us into a world that few are privileged to see.
